People treat AMD as a Santa Clara design house that always printed AMD on a Nasdaq book.
The letters reached a listed tape late. The first public print was over-the-counter.
Jerry Sanders and seven colleagues founded Advanced Micro Devices on 1 May 1969 in Sunnyvale.
The company's own investor FAQ records that on 27 September 1972 AMD issued 620,000 common shares over-the-counter at 15.50 U.S. dollars. The company sold 500,000. Selling shareholders sold 120,000. Gross proceeds were 7.5 million U.S. dollars in 1972 currency.
The same FAQ records the New York Stock Exchange debut on 15 October 1979.
Nasdaq received the book only on 2 January 2015.
The 1979 tape listed a second-source logic house that had already been public for seven years without a Big Board specialist.
The pin is the Broad Street facade of the exchange that took the listed order. The trading floor is not a visitor gallery.
The mechanism is an OTC semiconductor book that waited seven years before the New York tape printed the same three letters.
