Finance History | 11 Wall Street — A Jacksonville Shopping-Center Book That Printed REG

People treat Regency Centers as a Jacksonville grocery-anchored REIT that always printed REG after a finished New York book.
The October 1993 issuer was Regency Realty Corporation, a Florida real estate investment trust organized that July around a Southeast portfolio of neighborhood shopping centers.
The company's own investor FAQ still dates the initial public offering to October 1993, when the common stock listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the letters REG.
A Form 8-A filed on 30 August 1993 was declared effective on 29 October 1993, the date later tables treat as the first session.
A 1998 Form S-3 recorded that regular quarterly dividends had been paid since that first public sale, and that the New York tape still printed REG.
The present tape is REG on the Nasdaq Global Select Market, after a later transfer off the New York book.
The mechanism is a 1993-vintage property roll-up. Distressed shopping-center prices after the early-1990s real-estate slump made a listed REIT the vehicle for retiring partnership debt and buying more grocery-anchored centers.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that first printed REG.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
