People treat Airbnb as a San Francisco travel app that was always a hundred-billion listing.
The first public print was a Class A book priced after a pandemic cut the private value to 18 billion dollars.
On 9 December 2020 Airbnb, Inc. priced 51,323,531 Class A shares at 68 dollars each. The company sold 50 million. Selling holders sold 1,323,531.
The company prospectus and the Nasdaq pricing release put gross proceeds to Airbnb at about 3.4 billion dollars in 2020 currency, before the underwriters' option, and said the firm would receive nothing from the selling holders' shares.
Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Allen and Company led the books.
Regular trading under the letters ABNB began on the Nasdaq Global Select Market on 10 December 2020.
The New York Times recorded the 68-dollar price against an earlier marketed range of 44 to 50 dollars, later lifted to 56 to 60.
Shares opened at 146 dollars and closed the first session at 144.71 dollars, a gain of 113 percent from the offer. Contemporary reports put the first-day capitalization near 86.5 billion dollars on some share counts and about 100 billion on a fully diluted count.
The 2020 sale did not list a recovered travel year. Nights booked were still below 2019. The tape priced a platform that had already cut a quarter of its staff and raised emergency private capital that spring.
Nasdaq MarketSite at 4 Times Square is the public face of that electronic market. The interior studios are not a visitor floor.
The mechanism is a dual-class listing that let the private book meet public demand after the 2020 travel stop, at a print more than double the offer.
