People treat Public Storage as a Frisco self-storage REIT that always printed PSA after a finished New York book.
The 1984 issuer sat in the Public Storage family founded on 14 August 1972 in California by B. Wayne Hughes and Kenneth Volk Jr. The firm later elected REIT taxation beginning with the 1981 taxable year.
Market records date the New York Stock Exchange print under the letters PSA to 19 October 1984. A company note published for a 9 May 2025 opening-bell ceremony called that listing the start of four decades on the Big Board.
SEC language records a California incorporation in 1980 and a reorganization as a Maryland real estate investment trust in June 2007. Wikipedia and contemporary deal coverage date the 1995 combination with Storage Equities, after which the public parent took the Public Storage name.
The present tape is PSA on the New York Stock Exchange.
The mechanism is a partnership book folded into a listed REIT. Limited-partnership capital built the orange doors. The listed trust became the parent that still prints the three letters.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that now prints PSA.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
