People treat Lam Research as a Fremont wafer-tool house that always printed LRCX after a finished Nasdaq book.
The 1984 issuer was Lam Research Corporation, organized under California law on 21 January 1980 and later reincorporated in Delaware on 8 September 1989.
The company sold single-wafer plasma etch systems, beginning with the AutoEtch 480 introduced in 1981.
Its investor-relations FAQ dates the initial public offering to 11 May 1984 and places the common stock on Nasdaq under LRCX from that offering.
A 2024 company note marking forty years on Nasdaq restated the same 1984 listing and the same letters.
Market-data services commonly start a continuous LRCX series on 11 May 1984.
The letters LRCX still open on the Nasdaq Global Select Market.
The mechanism is a 1984 over-the-counter instrument IPO that kept one ticker through later Nasdaq tier changes and a 2024 ten-for-one split.
The pin is the public Times Square facade of Nasdaq MarketSite, the present street marker for the tape that prints LRCX.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
