People treat Home Depot as an Atlanta warehouse chain that always printed HD after a finished Big Board book.
The September 1981 issuer was The Home Depot, Inc., two years after the first two Atlanta stores opened.
On 22 September 1981 the common stock went public on Nasdaq at 12.00 dollars a share in 1981 currency.
The company's own timeline records that the offering raised 4.093 million dollars in 1981 currency.
The letters on that first tape were HOMD.
The same common stock began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on 19 April 1984 under the letters HD.
The mechanism is a cash IPO on Nasdaq, followed by a later transfer of an existing book.
Nasdaq MarketSite at 4 Times Square is the public facade for that first tape.
