People treat Monster Beverage as a Corona energy-drink house that always printed MNST after a finished Nasdaq book.
The January 2012 issuer was Hansen Natural Corporation, already listed on The Nasdaq Global Select Market under HANS.
A company 8-K dated 5 January 2012 records that stockholders that day approved a certificate amendment changing the name to Monster Beverage Corporation.
The same filing states that the common would begin trading under MNST at the open on 9 January 2012, with a new CUSIP of 611740101, and that outstanding certificates would not need to be exchanged.
A later 10-K records the earlier path of that book: over-the-counter from 8 November 1990, then the Nasdaq Capital Market under HANS, then the Nasdaq Global Select Market from 5 July 2007.
The mechanism is a name-and-ticker change on an already-listed Nasdaq book, not a new cash offering.
The pin is the public Times Square facade of Nasdaq MarketSite, the present street marker for the tape that stopped HANS and opened MNST.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
