People treat PPG as a Pittsburgh coatings house that always printed PPG after a finished New York book.
The December 1945 issuer was still Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, the plate-glass maker organized at Creighton, Pennsylvania, in 1883.
A company press release dated 10 July 2018 records that the firm listed on the New York Stock Exchange on 17 December 1945.
The same statement records uninterrupted annual dividends since 1899.
The name on the tape changed later. On 19 December 1968 the issuer became PPG Industries, Inc., a holding line for glass, coatings, and chemicals.
SEC file 001-1687 is still the registration for that common.
The present tape is PPG on the New York Stock Exchange.
The mechanism is a mid-century industrial listing, not a cash IPO of a new firm.
The company had already paid dividends for decades. The Exchange admitted the existing common.
Holders bought plate glass and paint, not a later software story.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that has printed PPG since that listing.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
