Biography|Greg Hayes — The Tape That Opened RTX on This Exchange

People treat RTX as a company that was always listed under those three letters.

The letters printed for the first time on 3 April 2020, on this facade.

That Friday, United Technologies completed an all-stock merger of equals with Raytheon Company after spinning off Carrier and Otis.

UTC changed its name to Raytheon Technologies Corporation.

Raytheon common shares (RTN) stopped trading before the open.

Each Raytheon share converted into 2.3348 shares of the surviving company.

The new common stock opened on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker RTX at $51.

It closed the session at $49.93.

Hayes, who had been chairman and chief executive of UTC, became chief executive of the combined company.

Thomas A. Kennedy, Raytheon's chairman and CEO, became executive chairman.

The company press release was datelined Waltham, Massachusetts.

The public tape was here, at 11 Wall Street, where UTX had already listed and where RTX now printed.

UTC shareholders owned about 57 percent of the combined firm and held eight of fifteen board seats.

The deal had been announced in June 2019 as a $121 billion combination of Pratt & Whitney, Collins Aerospace, and Raytheon.

It closed in the first weeks of the COVID-19 market break.

Hayes remained CEO until 2 May 2024, then served as executive chairman until he left the board on 30 April 2025.

Christopher T. Calio succeeded him as chief executive and, later, as chairman.
