The December 2018 issuer was Moderna, Inc., a Delaware company that had spent the decade as a private clinical-stage shop.
A company pricing release dated 6 December 2018 stated an offering of 26,275,993 common shares at 23.00 U.S. dollars a share in 2018 dollars, all sold by the company.
Gross proceeds were expected at 604.3 million U.S. dollars in 2018 dollars before discounts, then the largest U.S. biotechnology initial public offering by proceeds.
Trading began on the Nasdaq Global Select Market on 7 December 2018 under MRNA.
Period accounts from Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal record a first-session close of 18.60 U.S. dollars in 2018 dollars.
The mechanism is a cash initial public offering that put an unapproved mRNA platform onto the Nasdaq tape at a multi-billion-dollar valuation.
The pin is the public Times Square facade of Nasdaq MarketSite, the present street marker for the tape that first printed MRNA.
