People treat NiSource as a Merrillville holding company that always printed NI after a finished New York book.
The December 1962 issuer was the Northern Indiana Public Service lineage, later organized as NIPSCO Industries in 1987 and renamed NiSource Inc. on 14 April 1999.
The New York Stock Exchange's own 2012 closing-bell notice records that the common began trading on the Exchange on 19 December 1962.
NiSource's 2012 annual message to stockholders marked the same date as fifty years on the NYSE, and the ticker NI was kept when the holding-company name changed.
The present tape is still NI on the New York Stock Exchange.
The mechanism is a listed utility common that survived a holding-company wrap and a 1999 rename without changing its New York letters.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that first printed the NI book.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
