People treat Snap-on as a Kenosha tool house that always printed SNA after a finished New York book.
The February 1978 issuer was already public.
The company's own history records that the common stock had been bought and sold over the counter before that date.
On 27 February 1978 the same shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the letters SNA.
That move is what Wall Street still called going onto the Big Board.
It was a change of venue, not a cash initial public offering priced on the floor.
Snap-on Wrench Company had been incorporated in Milwaukee on 21 April 1920.
The listing memory is the tape, not the first socket set.
A separate pin already sits at 134 Reed Street for the 1920 incorporation.
The mechanism is an over-the-counter industrial name accepted onto the listed New York book.
The present tape is still SNA on the New York Stock Exchange.
The pin is the Broad Street facade of the Exchange, where SNA opened.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
