People treat PulteGroup as an Atlanta homebuilder that always printed PHM after a finished New York book.
The 1969 issuer was Pulte Home Corporation. A company timeline still posted on the investor site records an initial offering of 200,000 common shares that year, after a combination with the Colorado Springs builder American Builders.
The same company history dates the first PHM tape to the American Stock Exchange in 1972. In 1983 the stock of the parent, then called PHM Corporation, began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the same three letters.
A later holding-company sequence produced Pulte Homes, Inc. After the 2009 combination with Centex, the listed parent took the PulteGroup name in 2010. The present tape is still PHM on the New York Stock Exchange.
The mechanism is a builder that listed twice. The 1969 offering and the 1972 AMEX print made a regional house public.
The 1983 Big Board move put the same letters on the tape that index funds now read.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that now prints PHM.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
