People treat PACCAR as a Bellevue truck maker that always printed PCAR after a finished Nasdaq book.
The 1972 issuer was PACCAR Inc, the Delaware holding company that absorbed Pacific Car and Foundry Company, the Seattle rail-car and logging-equipment firm founded by William Pigott in 1905.
A dated HistoryLink essay records that Pacific Car and Foundry became PACCAR Inc on 25 January 1972.
The company's own history page records that directors and shareholders voted that year to drop a name that no longer matched Kenworth, Peterbilt, and the rest of the book.
The present tape is still PCAR on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
The mechanism is a holding-company rename: an already-listed manufacturing book kept trading while the letters on the tape changed to match the new parent.
The pin is the public Times Square facade of Nasdaq MarketSite, the present street marker for the tape that has printed PCAR.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
