People treat Jack Henry as a Monett software house that always printed JKHY after a finished Nasdaq book.
The 1985 issuer was Jack Henry and Associates, Inc., a Missouri bank-automation firm founded in 1976 and incorporated in 1977.
The firm reincorporated in Delaware on 12 November 1985 and made its initial public offering on 20 November 1985.
A company history of the offering says about 1.1 million shares were sold at 6.75 U.S. dollars a share in 1985 dollars, 725,000 by the company and 375,000 by selling stockholders, with the company realizing 6.21 dollars a share.
Market-data services commonly start a continuous JKHY series on 21 November 1985 on Nasdaq.
Wikipedia and later company summaries put 3,125,000 common shares on the 1985 Nasdaq book under JKHY, the outstanding count rather than the size of that first sale.
In August 2000 the same letters were still quoted on the Nasdaq National Market when the company priced a later registered offering of 3.3 million shares at 43.00 U.S. dollars a share.
The letters JKHY still open on the Nasdaq Global Select Market.
The mechanism is a 1985 over-the-counter software IPO that kept one ticker across Nasdaq tier changes and later follow-on sales.
The pin is the public Times Square facade of Nasdaq MarketSite, the present street marker for the tape that prints JKHY.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
