People treat Air Products as an Allentown industrial-gas campus that was always large-cap.
The first New York print was an on-site oxygen book that had already passed 100 million dollars of sales.
Leonard Parker Pool founded Air Products in Detroit in 1940. The idea was to build the plant at the customer's site and sell the gas as a service, not as a cylinder.
Wartime orders for mobile oxygen generators kept the firm alive before merchant gas and chemicals widened the book.
Air Products' own company history records that the common stock listed on the New York Stock Exchange for the first time in 1962, the year sales passed 100 million dollars in 1962 currency.
The same year the firm bought Houdry Process Company and its construction subsidiary. The listing and the chemical purchase arrived together.
The 1962 tape did not raise a story of a new plant financed by the offering. It moved an already-operating gas manufacturer onto the exchange that then priced the country's large industrials.
Later splits the market records include 2-for-1 in 1986, 1992 and 1998, and a 1081-for-1000 split on 3 October 2016. The 1962 share is a coarser unit than the share that prints today.
The letters on the tape are APD.
The pin is the public Broad Street viewpoint at the 1903 exchange building. The floor is not visitable.
The Detroit shop of 1940 and the Allentown campus are separate memories. This one is the year the gas book reached the Big Board.
The mechanism is an on-site plant that turned oxygen into a listed industrial once the sales line cleared nine figures.
