People treat Masco as a Livonia building-products house that always printed MAS after a finished New York book.
The issuer began as Masco Screw Products Company, organized in Detroit in 1929 to machine automotive parts.
The company's own timeline dates a Detroit Stock Exchange opening in 1936 at 1.00 U.S. dollar a share in 1936 dollars on 120,000 shares.
The firm took the Masco Corporation name in 1961 after it had already moved from auto parts into single-handle faucets.
Company history pages date the first New York Stock Exchange listing to 1969.
Market data services commonly mark 5 May 1969 as the New York start date under MAS.
The surviving common still opens on this exchange under those letters.
The 1969 mechanism is a regional Detroit book that took a Big Board tape after the faucet business had already replaced screw-machine work as the growth line.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that first printed MAS.
