Did you grow up with a passion for comic books or super heroes? I for one, did not. As a child of the 80s, I had the pleasure of enjoying some of the entertainment industry's epic movie franchises rise in popularity and capture the hearts of millions of fans. I was never a die-hard though. I enjoyed watching Star Wars, but it never captured my imagination like it did for many. I never wanted to be Rey or Princess Leia. In fact, I was more inclined to want to be Le Corbusier or Ray Eames or my ultimate favorite architect, Ludwig Mies van de Rohe.
Kumite is the first time I ever felt the urge to jump deep into the world of comics and super heroes. But how did that come to be? How did I find a passion for this when its not something that ever appealed to me before? There are many complexities to this answer but I will narrow it down to the main draw for me, the ability that Kumite gives the every day person to tell their story and make themselves the hero of their own journey. In essence, Kumite appeals to the natural desire innate in all humans for significance and permanence. Because we are always aware that at some point life ends and we never know when that might be, there is always an underlying fear that we aren't doing enough with the time we have on this earth. I think this drives us to tell the story of our lives and why we mattered to the world. In doing so, we may create a legacy that outlasts us and allows us to make a difference long after our days are done.
So I jumped into Kumite because it appealed to my desire to tell the stories that have shaped my life and allowed me to leave my own mark on humanity through the power of story. Through Metablox, I hope to capture the historical memory of Kumite as told through the eyes of the first investors of the project. I hope to have meaningful dialogue with storytellers to get at the essence of who they are, the origins of their story and what legacy they hope to leave for humanity through the stories they create. Through the power of our collective story and the mapping of our individual stories, I want to leave future generations a historical record of this powerful movement to empower the hero within that is Kumite.
If you're reading this in the year 2022 or 2023, I hope that you find inspiration to join us on this journey to co-create the world of Kumite by joining the family that you resonate with the most (although I will make a strong case for the Faeries since they are the family most in tune with the earth and it's gifts and the keepers of it's memories). If you are reading this way in the future, I hope you find a connection to the past that highlights who you are and the impact you want to have in the world. I hope you find yourself on your own hero's journey and that these stories inspire you.
