People treat O'Reilly Automotive as a Springfield parts chain that always printed ORLY after a finished Nasdaq book.
The April 1993 issuer was O'Reilly Automotive, Inc., the Missouri retailer Charles F. O'Reilly and Charles H. O'Reilly had opened in Springfield in 1957.
The company's own history page records an initial public offering on 22 April 1993 of 2,333,332 common shares at 17.50 U.S. dollars a share in 1993 dollars.
The same page records that the shares began active public trading on the Nasdaq market under ORLY on 23 April 1993 and closed at 19.28 U.S. dollars that day.
The present tape is still ORLY on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
The mechanism is a cash initial public offering that put a still-private family auto-parts retailer onto the Nasdaq tape under the letters it still uses.
The pin is the public Times Square facade of Nasdaq MarketSite, the present street marker for the tape that first printed ORLY.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
