People treat Gen Digital as a Tempe cyber shop that always printed GEN after a finished consumer-security book.
The June 1989 issuer was Symantec Corporation.
Symantec had incorporated in Sunnyvale on 1 March 1982.
After six loss-making years it reported a profit in the fiscal year ended 31 March 1989.
The common stock opened on Nasdaq on 23 June 1989 under the letters SYMC.
The offering was priced at 10.50 dollars a share in 1989 currency.
The same legal issuer later printed NLOK after the 2019 sale of the enterprise book to Broadcom, then GEN from 8 November 2022.
The mechanism is a cash IPO that created the public book the later names still use.
Nasdaq MarketSite at 4 Times Square is the public facade for that tape.
