Princess Hours|Gyeonggijeon Shrine — The Jeonju Courtyard That Became the Main Palace

Gyeonggijeon was built to hold the portrait of Taejo, founder of Joseon. Princess Hours used its yards as the main palace the family actually lived in.

VisitKorea's Gung guide names the shrine for the front and back courtyards and for the royal family's outdoor sport. The compound sits inside Jeonju Hanok Village at 44 Taejo-ro. Red gates. Stone walls. A bamboo stand that later dramas would keep returning to. The portrait hall is still there. So is the old archive building that once stored copies of the Annals.

The joke of the series is a living court inside a working city. Jeonju already was that. Tourists in rented hanbok walk the same lanes the cameras used. The shrine is a paid historic site, open year-round, and it does not pretend to be a soundstage. You pass through Oesammun and the noise of the village drops.

Stand in the inner court and the scale is closer to a household than to Gyeongbokgung. That is the register the drama wanted for family scenes: a palace you could cross on foot, with a wall that still lets the city in.
