On 19 June 2008 Apple opened its first store in Australia, and the first in the Southern Hemisphere, at 367 George Street, Sydney.
Doors opened at 5 p.m.
The first person in line had arrived about thirty hours earlier.
The first 2,500 through the door received a shirt.
Three floors. More than 125 staff. What Apple then called the world's longest Genius Bar and some of the largest sheets of plate glass it had used.
Ron Johnson opened it.
Jobs was not on George Street.
The shop sits one block north of the Queen Victoria Building, at George and King.
It was the second-largest Apple Store on the day it opened, after Regent Street.
A visitor still comes off George Street into the same glass front.
