On 3 July 2010 Apple opened store 294 at 12 rue Halévy.
The building is a listed Haussmann bank facing the Palais Garnier.
Three floors. Mosaic floor. Marble columns. Iron spiral stairs. A long skylight.
The teams could not put Jobs's glass stair into a monument historique.
Doors opened at 10 a.m.
Jobs came through the shop that evening.
He had not come for the Louvre opening eight months earlier. Ron Johnson had stood there instead.
Steve Cano, who ran international retail, had told the press this flagship had to live inside a Paris building rather than drop a cube into one.
The vault door stayed in the basement.
Pudong's glass cylinder opened one week later.
A visitor still comes off Place de l'Opéra into the old bank.
