On 4 November 2008, Madonna brought the Sticky & Sweet Tour to Petco Park in San Diego, an exact date and venue documented by the [local Petco Park event guide](https://www.petcoparkinsider.com/madonna-concert-san-diego). The session mattered to the city as more than a stadium concert: it tested whether a publicly owned baseball ground could earn meaningful special-event revenue during the off-season.
San Diego's [Fiscal Year 2010 budget](https://www.sandiego.gov/sites/default/files/legacy/fm/annual/pdf/fy10/64v2petco.pdf) records the result precisely. The city's FY2009 special-event revenue budget was $830,000; actual performance produced a favorable variance of approximately $570,000 and total special-event revenue of $1.4 million. The document says the increase came primarily from booking the November 2008 Madonna concert. Those figures describe the entire special-event account and its variance—not the concert's gross or attendance.
A contemporary [NBC San Diego report](https://www.nbcsandiego.com/local/madonna-tour-sweet-success-for-city/1844812/), citing the San Diego Union-Tribune, separately projected that the election-night concert would contribute more than $200,000 to the city's general fund. The two records show how this one date worked as municipal event policy: the ballpark supplied the venue, the promoter supplied an off-season booking, and the public owner measured the outcome in revenue rather than reviews. The city budget added that the new promoter relationship could lead to more concerts outside baseball season.
As of September 2026, the Padres' [Finest Collective](https://thefinestcollective.com/) still advertises full-venue and general-admission concerts at Petco Park, evidence that non-baseball event use remains part of the site's operating model.
**Coordinate method.** The pin at `32.707331, -117.156939` uses [Wikidata's Petco Park coordinate](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1194586) for the stadium center. It was checked against Bernard Gagnon's independently embedded camera position, `32.706589, -117.157061`, on a [geotagged photograph visibly taken at the ballpark](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Petco_Park,_San_Diego.jpg); the points are about 83 metres apart. The stated precision radius is **±180 metres**, covering the playing field and seating bowl. It does not claim the undocumented position of the 2008 concert stage.
**Cover image.** Phil Konstantin's [2011 aerial photograph of Petco Park](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PetcoBallParkByPhilKonstantin.jpg), own work, licensed [CC BY-SA 3.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/). The image shows the ballpark configured for baseball; it does not depict Madonna, the 2008 concert, its stage, or its audience.
