100 Days My Prince | Gwanghalluwon Garden — The Pavilion That Borrowed the Moon

Namwon does not hide the pavilion. It puts Gwanghallu on a pond and lets the water do the second roof.
Gwanghalluwon Garden, at 1447 Yocheon-ro, is Scenic Site territory. Hwang Hui raised a lookout here in 1419. Jeong In-ji later said the view belonged on the moon, so the building took the name of Guanghan Palace. The present hall dates from the 1639 rebuild after the Imjin War burned the first one. Ojakgyo, the Magpie Bridge, still crosses the pond that was dug to stand in for the Milky Way.
100 Days My Prince used this garden the way Joseon painters used it: a place where rank could soften without leaving the frame. The production came south for the water, the lotuses, and the long eaves that throw a clean shadow at noon. When Yul and Hong Shim needed a landscape that was not a fortress lane and not a throne hall, this was the public garden that already knew how to hold two people.
Walk the stone paths clockwise. The pavilion sits slightly off the water so the reflection never quite matches the building. That mismatch is the photograph everyone takes, and it is the same mismatch the drama kept. Namwon charges a modest ticket and keeps evening hours in warm months.
Stand on Ojakgyo and look back at the hall. The garden was built to look like heaven. The series only had to point a camera at work that had already been done.
