Concert History | Michael Jackson at Zhongshan Soccer Stadium — A Cargo-Aircraft Failure Moved the Show Six Days

A [United Press International dispatch filed in Taipei on October 16, 1996](https://www.upi.com/Archives/1996/10/16/Michael-Jackson-delayed-in-Taiwan/7698845438400/) reported that Michael Jackson's first of three Taiwan concerts had to move after the aircraft bringing stage equipment from South Korea broke down. A spokesperson said the equipment arrived too late to prepare that night's Taipei performance and announced the replacement for the following Tuesday.

[United Daily News' archive of its contemporary reporting](https://time.udn.com/udntime/story/122834/9203043) independently identifies the delayed freight as lighting and sound equipment and dates the replacement performance to October 22. An October 8 report reproduced there had described a five-aircraft touring operation and separate equipment sets being coordinated for Taipei and Kaohsiung. The failure therefore did more than alter an itinerary: without the travelling technical system, Zhongshan Soccer Stadium could not become the planned concert venue on October 16.

The same United Daily News account says local organiser Kai Tuo offered ticket exchanges or refunds. That response converted an air-freight failure into a box-office operation, then preserved the booking as the October 22 session recorded here. The other Taipei concert went ahead on October 18; this memory concerns only the rescheduled October 22 performance.

Zhongshan Soccer Stadium closed in 2008 and its retained fabric was incorporated into the present Expo Dome, whose current use is described by the [Taipei Expo Foundation](https://www.expopark.taipei/FieldInfo_Detail.aspx?n=205&s=1).

**Coordinate method.** The pin at 25.069500, 121.521056 marks the centre of the former stadium footprint, not an undocumented 1996 stage, loading point or gate. [Wikidata](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q197911) places Zhongshan Soccer Stadium at this point; the present-day retained venue footprint is visible at the same location on [OpenStreetMap](https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/25.0695/121.5211). Because the stage and gate layout for this session is not documented, the honest precision radius is ±180 metres, covering the former ground and grandstands.
