Biography | Brendan Bechtel — Fifth Generation Named CEO From This Reston Address

Bechtel spent more than a century headquartered in San Francisco. The announcement that changed the letterhead was dated Reston.

On 31 May 2016 the company said from this office that president and chief operating officer Brendan Bechtel would succeed Bill Dudley as CEO in September.

He was thirty-five. Company accounts rank only his great-grandfather Stephen Bechtel Sr. as a younger chief executive.

Dudley had taken the job in late 2013 after Riley Bechtel stepped down as CEO following a Parkinson's diagnosis. Dudley, the first non-family CEO in the modern line, moved to vice-chairman.

The younger Bechtel had been president and COO since 2014 and a director since the same year. He had already run the oil, gas, and chemicals business and the LNG line.

Construction reporting recorded the start date as 1 September 2016.

On 26 April 2017 the board elected him chairman, succeeding Riley. He has held both titles since.

The Reston office at 12011 Sunset Hills Road, Suite 110, had been the operational headquarters since 2011 and 2012.

The company made it the official corporate headquarters at the end of 2018, leaving 50 Beale Street in San Francisco after more than a hundred years.
