On 11 May 2019 Tim Cook opened the doors of the Carnegie Library at 801 K Street NW, Mount Vernon Square, with Mayor Muriel Bowser.
Doors opened at 10 a.m.
Andrew Carnegie had paid for the Beaux-Arts building. It opened as the city's Central Public Library on 7 January 1903.
Foster + Partners and Beyer Blinder Belle restored it. The DC History Center shares the house.
Deirdre O'Brien and Phil Schiller were there.
More than 200 staff. Nearly half lived in the District. Twenty-seven languages.
People had queued more than three hours.
This was Apple's largest historic restoration to that date.
A visitor still comes up the library steps into the atrium under the skylight.
