Biography | Tim Cook — He Filled a 1915 Civic Hall with Phones, a Pencil and a Talking Box

On 9 September 2015 Tim Cook took the stage of the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium at 99 Grove Street.
Apple had outgrown Flint and Yerba Buena for a September phone launch.
This hall holds about 7,000 people.
It opened in 1915 as the Exposition Auditorium for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition.
The city renamed it for the concert promoter Bill Graham in 1992.
Cook's morning put three product lines in one room.
iPhone 6s and 6s Plus kept last year's silhouettes and added 3D Touch, an A9 chip, a 12-megapixel camera that recorded 4K video, and a rose-gold finish.
Pre-orders opened on 12 September.
Stores sold the phones on 25 September.
The same keynote introduced the first iPad Pro, a 12.9-inch tablet with an optional Apple Pencil and a Smart Keyboard.
It also introduced a fourth-generation Apple TV with a touch remote and an App Store of its own, the box the invitation had hinted at with Hey Siri.
The auditorium still runs concerts most weeks.
Civic Center Plaza and City Hall sit across Grove Street.
A visitor standing on the plaza sees the Beaux-Arts facade, not a product keynote.
Apple used the hall again in 2016, then moved September shows into the Steve Jobs Theater.
