On 7 September 2016 Tim Cook opened a special event in the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.
A year earlier the same 1915 hall had held the iPhone 6s, the first iPad Pro, and a talking Apple TV.
This morning the phone lost its analog headphone jack.
iPhone 7 and 7 Plus shipped with Lightning EarPods and a Lightning-to-3.5 mm adapter in the box.
The optional wireless answer was AirPods, at $159, with a W1 chip, five hours in the buds, and twenty-four hours from the case.
Apple said they would ship in late October.
They reached stores in mid-December.
The 7 started at $649 for 32 GB.
The 7 Plus started at $769 and added a second telephoto camera.
Both phones were water-resistant.
The home button became a solid-state switch with haptic feedback.
Pre-orders opened on 9 September.
Stores sold the phones on 16 September.
The same keynote brought Apple Watch Series 2, swim-rated to 50 metres with GPS, Super Mario Run, and a Sia performance.
Phil Schiller handled the iPhone walkthrough.
Cook opened and closed the hall.
The auditorium at 99 Grove Street still runs concerts.
Civic Center Plaza is across the street.
A visitor will hear a band, not a product keynote.
