Biography | Philipp Navratil — The Rosenberg Campus Where He Took the HSG Licence

People treat Nestlé's 2025 chief executive as a man who appeared when a board needed a name overnight.

The paper trail starts on Rosenberg hill in St. Gallen.

Philipp Navratil studied business administration at the University of St. Gallen from 1996 to 2001.

Nestlé's published curriculum vitae records the degree as lic. oec. HSG, the university's MBA-equivalent licence, with a major in finance and capital markets.

The campus address is Dufourstrasse 50, 9000 St. Gallen.

Wikipedia and the university's own geodata put the main Rosenberg buildings at 47.43167 north, 9.37472 east, above the abbey town and looking toward the Alpstein.

German biographical registers add a later executive course at IMD in Lausanne in 2011.

That course is a footnote. The five years that first bent the life are these.

He was born in Zürich on 1 May 1976 and holds Swiss and Austrian nationality.

Munzinger and the German Wikipedia both print that birth date. Nestlé's own CV prints only the year.

The pin is the public campus, not a childhood street.

During the St. Gallen years he spent one exchange term at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, in 1999–2000, under a partnership that still runs.

IIM Bangalore confirmed the term in its own notice after he became Nestlé chief.

In 2001 he left the hill and joined Nestlé's internal audit group at the Vevey headquarters.

Fortune later placed him with Mary Barra at General Motors and Doug McMillon at Walmart: people who never changed employer after the first job.

The comparison is useful and limited. Those two names are household. His was not, until 1 September 2025.

What the campus records is narrower. A finance student finished a Swiss licence and walked into the company that still employs him a quarter-century later.

The buildings on the hill have changed since 2001. The SQUARE learning centre opened in 2022. The main Förderer campus from 1963 is still the place a visitor can stand.
