Nagasaki puts the word goodbye on the glass.
The Goodbye Corner stands on the second floor, between the international departure lobby and the domestic boarding lounge. A pair of handsets. A pane. A Beechcraft flight simulator parked beside it.
A visitor photographed the booth in October 2023. A JAL traveler wrote it up the same year. Daily Portal Z had already tried the intercom in April 2010 and compared the room to a prison visiting booth.
The field itself opened on 1 May 1975 as Japan's first airport built on a purpose-made island, in Omura Bay.
The terminal leans on church interiors and Nagasaki motifs: a bell on the roof, a dragon in stained glass over the stairs. The phones are plainer than the decoration. They do one job.
After security you can still see the person who drove out to the island. You can still hear them. You cannot touch them.
That is the whole of the corner.
