The sign at Sendai is a sentence, not a brand.

また逢う日まで. Lift the receiver and you can talk through the glass.

Airport staff told a reporter in 2024 that the phones went in when the present passenger terminal opened in 1997. There were no smartphones. The point was a face after the trays, not a wave from the public hall.

Families still use them most. New Year. Golden Week. Obon. A grandchild on one side of the pane, a grandparent on the other.

A shop worker on the public side once said the conversations carry far enough to make the staff tear up.

Sendai sits on the Pacific plain at Natori. The 2011 tsunami flooded the runway and the first floor. The phones are on the split between the boarding lounge and the see-off side, above that waterline.

The wording on the plate has not been updated for the mobile era. It does not need to be.

You see the face. You hear the voice. You put the receiver back before the last call.
