Biography | Philipp Navratil — The Board Named Him CEO Here on 1 September 2025

On 1 September 2025 Nestlé's board issued an ad-hoc announcement from Vevey.

Philipp Navratil was chief executive of Nestlé S.A. with immediate effect.

The same statement recorded the dismissal of Laurent Freixe after a board investigation into an undisclosed relationship with a direct subordinate, a breach of the company's code of business conduct.

Chairman Paul Bulcke and lead independent director Pablo Isla oversaw the inquiry with outside counsel. Freixe received no exit pay, the company said later.

Navratil was 49. He had been on the executive board only since 1 January 2025, and Nespresso chief since July 2024.

The appointment was not a search. It was a promotion from inside a 24-year Nestlé file.

The press release was datelined Vevey. The visiting address of the group remains Avenue Nestlé 55, the Tschumi headquarters finished in 1960.

That is the pin. A public corporate front, not a private room.

French and English versions of the announcement agree on the date and the mechanism: board decision, immediate effect, successor already inside the house.

Fortune, writing two days later, framed him as a one-company climber in the line of Mary Barra and Doug McMillon. The comparison is about tenure, not about scale of fame.

He had run Honduras from 2009, Mexico coffee from 2013, the global coffee unit from 2020. Coffee was the path. The title at the top was new.

Pablo Isla brought forward his own start as chairman to 1 October 2025, six months early. Reuters treated the paired exits as a clearing of the old guard.

A year on, Swiss papers were still measuring whether the new pair had moved the share price. That is a later argument.

This pin is only the morning the name changed, on a lakeside avenue the company has used since Tschumi's building opened.
