坑道を抜けたあと、目はまだ暗さを覚えている。第3話「残された恒星」の終盤に重なる道の駅 大滝温泉は、ルリ、ナギ、伊万里の鉱山行きを日常へ戻す境目だ。蛍石が星のように光った地下から国道沿いの明るい建物へ移ると、発見したものの大きさは石の数では測れないとわかる。駐車場に車が入り、観光案内が並び、温泉へ向かう人が歩く。どれも普通の光景だが、背後の山を一度知った目には、その斜面の内側にも鉱脈と採掘の歴史が続いている。休憩施設として利用し、車道や他の利用者を妨げずに建物と山の位置を確かめたい。帰り際に道路脇の岩肌を見ると、地下で見た恒星の続きを、今度は昼の光の中で探し始めてしまう。
