温泉宿でナギが見せたのは、中央に穴の開いた白い石だった。第13話「見上げて覗いて探して、次！」で、ルリと硝子は館内を探り、それが温泉の配管に析出した沈殿物だと突き止める。舞台となった歴史の宿 金具屋は、制作スタッフが実際にロケハンした場所だ。木の階段、格子天井、廊下の折れ方まで緻密に描かれ、古い建物そのものが観察対象になる。温泉は癒やしの背景であると同時に、地下の水が岩石を溶かし、運び、再び固める現場でもある。宿泊者として静かに館内を歩き、私有空間や他の客へカメラを向けない。夜、屋上へ視線を上げれば、配管を詰まらせる小さな石と、空から落ちてくる隕石が、どちらもルリの次の問いを待っている。
