Biography|Makoto Uchida — The Returnee High School on This Kyotanabe Hill
kevin
Doshisha International High School sits at 60-1 Tatara Miyakodani in Kyotanabe, next to Doshisha University's Kyotanabe campus and a ten-minute walk from JR Doshisha-mae station.
The high school opened in 1980 to take in children who had grown up outside Japan.
Makoto Uchida was one of them.
He was born in Tokyo on 20 July 1966. His father worked for an airline, and the family spent primary-school years in Cairo, then the middle of high school in Kuala Lumpur.
Japanese press profiles and a Financial Times feature both put those years abroad on the record. They also put the return here, at the Doshisha school that already knew how to teach students who had sat in international classrooms.
He finished secondary school on this hill, then moved up the line to Doshisha's Imadegawa campus for a theology degree in March 1991.
The high school is not a museum. It is a working campus. A visitor sees the same precinct as the university's Kyotanabe buildings across Tatara Miyakodani.
The pin is the school address, not a private house. No classroom inside is claimed.
What matters is the sequence. Cairo, Kuala Lumpur, then this returnee school, then a theology faculty, then a trading company car desk.
English stayed with him. Nissan later used that fluency, and the China years, when the board wanted a chief who already worked across the Alliance.
The school still describes itself as a place built for students coming home. That is the frame that fits Uchida's teenage years. The exact enrollment date is not on the public filing. The campus and the purpose are.
