Biography|Makoto Uchida — He Left This Tower on the Last Day of March
kevin
On 11 March 2025 Nissan filed a Tokyo Stock Exchange notice on a change of representative executive officers.
Makoto Uchida would remain a director. He would step down as representative executive officer, president and CEO. The filing named Ivan Espinosa, then chief planning officer, as the incoming president and CEO.
The effective date for Espinosa was 1 April 2025. Uchida's term in the top job therefore ended on 31 March.
The notice went out under the Yokohama headquarters letterhead. The address is the same glass tower at 1-1 Takashima where the board had put him in October 2019 and where he had taken the chair on 1 December.
He had held the job five years and four months. That span covered the first pandemic sales collapse, the Nissan Next recovery plan, a recast of the Renault alliance, and a later stretch of losses that the board treated as grounds for a change.
This is the last-chapter pin, not the appointment pin. The building is the same. The moment is not.
The headquarters gallery on the lower floors is still a public space. Operations in the tower continued after the filing. Nissan later agreed a sale-and-leaseback of the building; the company said staffing and work in the tower would not move.
A visitor in 2026 is looking at the same facade. The name on the door of the CEO office changed on 1 April 2025.
Uchida's public record on this site is the filing, not a farewell speech invented after the fact.
