People treat Datadog as the New York Times Building floor that always sold a cloud dashboard from a Nasdaq-100 and S and P 500 book.
The first book was two Centrale classmates after a News Corp sale.
In June 2010 Olivier Pomel and Alexis Lê-Quôc incorporated Datadog in Delaware. They had met at École Centrale Paris. Both later worked at Wireless Generation in New York, Pomel as vice president of technology and Lê-Quôc as director of live operations.
News Corp bought that education-software house. The two left to write a monitoring product that put developers and operators on the same screen.
The first use case, infrastructure monitoring, reached general availability in 2012. The platform was built for machines that came and went on Amazon Web Services rather than for a rack that stayed put.
The mechanism is one pipeline for metrics, traces, and logs. A team that ships code and a team that keeps the site up look at the same graph instead of two separate tools.
Headquarters later took a full floor at 620 Eighth Avenue, the New York Times Building. The Class A shares listed on Nasdaq in September 2019 under DDOG.
The pin is the Times Square tower the public book grew into, not the first rented New York room.
