Nintendo's parent company employed 3,084 people at the end of March 2026, and 8,666 across the whole group.

That is the entire payroll behind Mario, Zelda and the Switch, and it works out of this white office block in an industrial district south of Kyoto Station.

The head office moved here in 2000 from 東山区, and the registered address has read 京都市南区上鳥羽鉾立町11番地1 ever since.

Nintendo does not spread itself across campuses. A development building of about 50,000 square metres opened beside this one in April 2014 and pulled roughly 1,100 developers into a single place.

On 25 June 2026 the company published the specification for the next one.

任天堂 技術開発棟, in English the Technology Development Center, goes on the strip of land between the head office and the 2014 building: nine floors above ground and one below, 49,305.87 square metres, 67.570 metres tall.

Nintendo's own estimate of the building cost, as carried in its securities report, is ¥121 billion.

Completion is set for March 2029, more than a year later than the December 2027 first planned, and that lands in the 140th year since the 1889 founding.

The land came from the city. Kyoto opened a public proposal process in December 2021 for the site of a former business-incubation factory, and Nintendo was selected in April 2022.

There is nothing here to visit, which is part of the answer to why the museum was built out in Uji instead.

本社がここへ移ってきたのは2000年、東山区からの移転だった。以来、登記上の所在地は京都市南区上鳥羽鉾立町11番地1のままである。

任天堂は拠点を広く散らさない。2014年4月には隣接地に延べ約5万平方メートルの本社開発棟が完成し、約1,100人の開発者が一か所に集められた。

そして2026年6月25日、その次の建物の概要が公表された。

「任天堂 技術開発棟」（英語名 Nintendo Co., Ltd. Technology Development Center）は、本社と2014年の開発棟に挟まれた土地に建つ。地上9階・地下1階、延べ面積49,305.87平方メートル、高さ67.570メートル。

建物建設費は、有価証券報告書に記載された現時点の概算で1,210億円。

竣工予定は2029年3月。当初計画の2027年12月から1年以上遅れており、この年は1889年の創業から数えて140年目にあたる。

土地は京都市から出たものだ。市が2021年12月に元創業支援工場の用地について公募型プロポーザルを実施し、2022年4月に任天堂が有効活用事業者に選定された。

ここには見学するものが何もない。ミュージアムが宇治に建った理由の一端は、たぶんそこにある。
