Finance History | 11 Wall Street — SCEcorp Prints EIX

People treat Edison International as a Rosemead holding company that always printed EIX on a finished utility book.

The February 1996 issuer was still SCEcorp, the parent created on 1 July 1988 when Southern California Edison common automatically became SCEcorp common.

The company's investor FAQ records that SCEcorp common automatically became Edison International common and began trading under EIX on 5 February 1996. No certificate exchange was required.

The Los Angeles Times of 29 January 1996 said the parent would announce the name that day in Los Angeles and that the EIX ticker would take effect the following Monday.

Monday 5 February 1996 is that date.

The mechanism is a holding-company rename on an already-listed California utility tape, not a cash initial offering. Holders of the 1988 SCEcorp paper kept the same certificates under a third name.

Southern California Edison itself traces to late-nineteenth-century light companies and to a 1909 incorporation. The regulated wires book still sits under the holding company.

The ticker is still EIX.

The pin is the Broad Street facade of the Exchange. Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
