Biography | Tero Virtala — Named CEO of Remedy From This Espoo Office

On 11 August 2016 Remedy Entertainment named Tero Virtala chief executive.

The studio that made Max Payne, Alan Wake and Quantum Break was in Espoo, at Luomanportti 3.

The building is a three-storey office finished in 2002 on the Olarinluoma workplace strip, east of Kehä II and a short walk from Niittykumpu metro.

Remedy remains the tenant.

Virtala was arriving from outside the founding circle.

He had spent more than twelve years running RedLynx, then a stretch as an independent consultant.

Remedy's own notice said he had been advising the studio since the spring, helping to refine a plan for more than one game at a time.

He replaced co-founder Markus Mäki, who had served as interim chief executive after Matias Myllyrinne left for Wargaming in 2015.

Mäki went back to production.

The timing was not accidental.

Quantum Break had shipped that spring as an Xbox exclusive.

Remedy had already said it would split into two project teams and had begun work with Smilegate on a story mode for CrossFire.

The job Virtala was hired to do was to make that multi-project model hold.

He was in his early forties.

Market filings later listed him as a graduate of Aalto University's School of Science and Technology, the old Helsinki University of Technology campus in Otaniemi.

This pin is the workplace that was already public, already on the company letterhead, already the address printed on later stock-exchange notices.

Living executives do not get their current homes mapped.

The office on Luomanportti does.

From this block he would take Remedy onto Nasdaq First North the following May, onto the official list in 2022, and through Control and Alan Wake 2.

He would leave the same address on 22 October 2025, by mutual agreement with the board, after nine years.
