Biography | Tero Virtala — He Stepped Down Here After Nine Years

On 22 October 2025 Tero Virtala stepped down as chief executive of Remedy Entertainment.

The board said the departure was mutual and immediate.

He had held the job since August 2016.

Co-founder Markus Mäki, chairman until that morning, became interim chief executive.

Board member Henri Österlund took the chair.

Virtala stayed on for a handover.

The company said a search for a permanent successor would start at once.

Jean-Charles Gaudechon, formerly of Electronic Arts and CCP Games, took the post on 1 March 2026.

Annual meetings and extraordinary meetings in these years were convened in that building.

It is a public company's registered office, not a private house.

The months before the resignation had been hard on the share price.

FBC: Firebreak, Remedy's first self-published game, launched in June 2025 and sold below the studio's own plan.

A profit warning and an impairment followed.

Alan Wake 2 had been a critical success in 2023 without becoming the financial engine some investors wanted.

Those facts belong in the record.

They do not need decoration.

What Virtala leaves on the map is specific.

He took a one-project Espoo studio onto First North in 2017 and onto the official list in 2022.

Under him the company shipped Control, Alan Wake Remastered, Alan Wake 2 and Firebreak, and bought the Control rights back from 505 Games.

MarketScreener still listed him, months later, as holding about 2.2 percent of the company.

The office block on Luomanportti looks like any other low workplace building off Kehä II.

The nine years that ran through it changed how a Finnish developer funded and scheduled its games.
