Biography|Elizabeth Dowdeswell — Sworn in Here as Ontario's 29th Lieutenant Governor

On 23 September 2014 the Legislative Chamber at Queen's Park installed Elizabeth Dowdeswell as Ontario's 29th lieutenant governor.

The Premier's Office advisory the day before timed the ceremony for 2 p.m. in that room.

She arrived from the Royal Ontario Museum in a horse-drawn landau, entered the south grounds, and took the oath before Chief Justice George Strathy with Premier Kathleen Wynne looking on.

A 100-person honour guard from the 4th Canadian Division and a 15-gun salute from the 7th Toronto Regiment stood on the north side of the building.

David Onley, who had held the post for seven years, handed over the chamber.

Governor General David Johnston had made the appointment on the advice of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, from a shortlist of the Advisory Committee on Vice-Regal Appointments.

She was the third woman in the office, after Pauline Mills McGibbon and Hilary Weston.

Canadian Press copy that afternoon recorded the themes she put on the record: she would start by listening, and she treated the world's problems as Ontario's own.

The sandstone Legislative Building faces south down University Avenue at 43.6624 north, 79.3917 west.

She left the office on 14 November 2023, after the longest tenure in the province's history, and was succeeded by Edith Dumont.
