People remember Green federal managers as faces on a stage.

For a decade Buening was the person who made the stage stand up.

On 23 July 2012 the federal board of Buendnis 90/Die Gruenen named her organisational federal managing director, succeeding Dorothea Staiger after Staiger's twenty-one years in the post.

She took the office on 1 August 2012.

The work sat in the Bundesgeschaeftsstelle at Platz vor dem Neuen Tor 1, 10115 Berlin, the five-storey yellow building between Charite and the transport ministry.

Wikipedia pins that house at 52 degrees 31 minutes 43.7 seconds north, 13 degrees 22 minutes 45.8 seconds east.

The party's own contact page still lists the same door.

FAZ later noted that by January 2022 she had already organised fifteen federal party conferences from this machine, most of them from behind the programme rather than on the podium.

On 29 January 2022 the 47th federal delegates' conference elected her political federal managing director, the outward-facing counterpart of the job she had held since 2012.

She left the federal board with the rest of that executive on 16 November 2024, after the September announcement that followed poor eastern state results.

This pin is the public party office, a documented headquarters, not a private workplace routine.

She no longer holds the title.
