Iris|Buk Seoul Dream Forest — The North Park Between Missions

Not every Iris exterior is a plaza under armed extras. Production records list Buk Seoul Dream Forest, the large public park in Gangbuk-gu that opened in 2009 on the old city dump at Wolgye and Beon-dong, as one of the Seoul locations.

The park is young in the same year the drama is. Lawns, a concert hall, an observatory hill, and a long reservoir walk sit where trash used to be piled. For a spy series that needed green space inside the capital without leaving for the mountains, the new forest was useful. Agents can look ordinary here. Couples can look ordinary here. The city had just finished both the park and the Gwanghwamun rebuild. Iris walked through the civic projects while they were still shiny.

Take Line 4 to Mia or Line 7 to Mia-sageori and climb. The observatory at the high point gives you Dobongsan and Bukhansan on a clear day. Down below, weekend families take the paths the crew used when the trees were thinner.

The park does not advertise the drama. It does not need to. You come for the grass and the view, and you leave knowing that in 2009 this ground was still new enough for a national spy story to treat it as open country inside Seoul.
