Iris|Gwangjin Bridge Riverview — The Eighth Pier Over the Han

Under the eighth pier of Gwangjin Bridge the city built a glass-floored room that hangs over the Han. Seoul calls it Riverview 8th Avenue. Namuwiki and the metropolitan government both record that the observatory was an Iris location. It is one of three pier lookouts of its kind in the world, and the only one in Korea.

The bridge itself was rebuilt and reopened in 2003. The lookout opened later, as part of the Han River Renaissance that also dressed Cheonggyecheon. From the glass you see the river running east, Achasan on one bank, Lotte World Tower downstream if the air is clean. The drama needed a Han River that was not a wide empty park. It needed a room bolted to a pier, with water under your shoes.

Hours are limited. March and November close at six. Summer stretches to eight. Monday and winter are dark. No pets, no bicycles, no outside food. Walk fifteen minutes from Gwangnaru or Cheonho on Line 5, drop down through Gwangnaru Hangang Park, and you are under the concrete.

Stand on the glass and wait for a barge. The river is working water, not a backdrop. That is why the scene still reads. The city did not build a set. It opened a pier and let a spy drama borrow the view.
