True Beauty | Seolli Skywalk — A Swing Hung Over the South Sea

The walkway leaves the cliff and does not come back for seventy-nine metres. Glass underfoot. A red mast like a sail. The South Sea sits thirty-six metres down.

VisitKorea lists Seolli Skywalk, at 176 Misong-ro 303beon-gil in Namhae, as the date site in True Beauty. Ju-kyung takes the swing at the far end. Su-ho stands on the deck and watches her clear the railing into empty air. The official pages still sell the swing as a Bali idea bolted to a Korean cantilever.

The structure is Korea's first asymmetrical cantilever skywalk. Forty-three of those metres hang with no pier underneath. Wind comes off the water and finds the cables. On a clear day the islands stack to the horizon. On a closed Tuesday the gate is shut and the sea keeps moving.

You buy a ticket. You walk out. The swing is extra and the staff will stop it when the gusts rise. The drama used the height the way the county built it: as a place where a person can be seen, briefly, with nothing behind her but water.

Come down the stairs and the parking lot is ordinary again. The mast stays in the rear-view mirror longer than the scene did.
