On 9 May 2005, U2 performed at Chicago’s United Center with Kings of Leon supporting. [U2’s official tour archive](https://www.u2.com/blogs/vertigo-leg-1-2005-us) lists that show and the following night at the same arena. Those two public performances became the source material for *Vertigo 2005: Live from Chicago*, rather than the released program documenting either date by itself.
The capture plan extended beyond ordinary concert coverage. [U2’s release page](https://www.u2.com/products/vertigo-live-from-chicago) describes four remotely controlled black-and-white infrared cameras used to make separate “surveillance cuts.” A [contemporary PopMatters review](https://www.popmatters.com/u2-vertigo2005dvd-2496101729.html) identifies the main program as principally the 10 May performance while noting that its closing performance came from 9 May. The edit therefore turned two dated sessions into one apparently continuous home-video concert.
That distinction is the historical mechanism: the arena audience experienced a specific night, while the later audience received a constructed record assembled across two nights and additional camera systems. The released film is evidence of its own production and editing, not a set list for either concert in isolation.
Status note, checked 10 September 2026: U2’s official site continues to maintain the band’s current site and this tour archive; United Center continues to operate under the same name at 1901 West Madison Street.
**Coordinate method.** The [United Center’s official directions page](https://www.unitedcenter.com/venue/directions-parking/) supplies the street address. The US Census TIGER address geocoder placed 1901 West Madison Street at 41.881291, -87.674217, while [Wikidata’s separately maintained arena point](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q639975) falls near the building center. The memory pin uses 41.880556, -87.674167 with a 150 m precision radius covering the arena footprint; it represents the building, not the stage or any camera position.
**Cover image.** Jeremy Atherton’s 16 July 2006 [United Center exterior photograph](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:United_Center_060716.jpg), own work, [CC BY-SA 2.5](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/). It shows the arena one year later, with an unrelated Eric Clapton event on the marquee; it does not depict U2 or either 2005 concert.
