Reply 1988 | Dobongsan — The Ridge at the End of the Block

From the Ssangmun alleys the mountain is not a day trip. It is the wall at the end of the street.

Reply 1988 used Dobongsan the way a 1988 family used it: as weather. When the camera needed the northern edge of Seoul to look like itself, the granite teeth of the ridge did the work. The dulle-gil that drops toward Ssangmun still carries the same pine and the same late-afternoon light that made the neighborhood feel farther from City Hall than a Line 4 ride should allow.

Bukhansan National Park begins a fifteen-minute walk from the station. Hikers in 2026 share the trail with aunties carrying market bags and students who have never seen the show. The granite does not care which year you arrived. It was already here when the five families were written into a cul-de-sac that had to be built somewhere else.

Climb far enough for the city to flatten. Then turn around. The roofs of Dobong-gu look ordinary from here, which is the only view the drama ever wanted.
